The De La Salle Venturer Group have added a further honour to what has already been an exceptionally active and successful year. On Sunday the 24th of September, they were awarded Venturer Group of the Year for 2000 by the Waterford and South Kilkenny Region. This is the group’s third consecutive year achieving the award and while presenting it the ARC, Chris Homes, spoke of how the group sets the standards to which other groups should aspire. The group were also congratulated on having Mark Casey and John Butler achieve the much coveted Explorer Belt which was held this year in the Czech Republic.

Also back in June the group were awarded youth group of the year in the uniformed and rescue services section of the 2000 Waterford Crystal Annual Youth Awards. The awards are organised by the Waterford Voluntary Youth Council and they recognise groups and individuals in the city who provide examples of good youth work practice. Pictured above are John Kinsella, Owen Riordan and Paul McSweeney having received the award.

The group also came first in this years closely contested national Venturer competition – the Cairde Trophy. The event was held from the 30th June to the 2nd of July in Larch Hill and our winning team consisted of Kenneth Rouse, John Kinsella, Paul McSweeney, Eric Whelan, John Butler, Mark Casey, Paul Cunningham and Derek Ryan. Further details of these exceptional achievements are available on the Venturers page.
