Over the past ninety two years there have been hundreds of adult leaders who have given a huge amount of time, energy and commitment to the De La Salle Scout Group. With those leaders the Group has flourished and grown into the successful Group it is today catering for approximately 200 young people. The role of the Scouter is one that entails many responsibilities, including those to the young people, to parents, to Scouting Ireland and to themselves. De La Salle prides itself in providing, training and supporting a team of skilled and committed Leaders in all of its sections.

On the 2011 Leaders Weekend in the Burren Co. Clare

Trustees

Pat Murphy

Group Leader

Usually in charge of making lots of noise as pipe major of the band, Pat is one of the longest serving members of the DLS leadership team. Has held just about every management position in Scouting and is offering consultancy on how to grow a moustache for Movember. Contact: groupleader@dlscouts.ie

TBA
Assistant Group Leader

Paschal Guilfoyle

Group Chairperson

He was the one with the famous thick black(ish) beard (we miss it) and is the definitive all round Scoutleader. Definitely the mountainy type, Paschal was once seen in wetgear costing less than €10. He wrote the book on Scouting, has a strange stone altar in his garden and occasionally has difficulty remembering to put the handbrake on his car.

Paul Windle

Finance Officer

Has been elevated to the promoted to the upper echelons of the Leadership team. Doesn’t do change, bring your credit card.

Tom Casey

Group Secretary

Better known as TC, he is an avid mountaineer, triathlete, runner, surfer, songwriter and musician. He is happiest when juggling at summits above 3000 feet having talked himself and everybody else to the top. Contact: news@dlscouts.ie

Support Team

John O’Donoghue

Group Trainer

Was in the Irish Navy and is completely out of his tree. He’s not afraid to join in with any section from time to time. Just remember keep him away from unattended glasses of any liquid or bags of sugar.

Ian Sinnott

Faithlegg Warden

Everybody calls him Sid. Not all of that grey in his hair is paint. Nearly pulled half the leadership team off the Aiguille du Tour in the French Alps. Be careful though he sometimes looks asleep, but he’s not!

Robert Windle

Group Quartermaster

The Drum Sergeant who has done a few mountain rescues in his time, nobody can really figure out Roddy at all.

Pat Murphy

Pipe Major
Pat or ‘Murph’ is responsible for ensuring that the Group makes lots of noise. As well as being involved at National level, he has also held at least 360 other posts in Irish scouting over the years. After many years we have still to figure out why it takes him so long to tune the pipes with that gadget at mass parades.

Colm Ennis(RIP)

Online Editor

Shows occasional flashes of madness and still has a tendancy to lead people up and down cliffs.

Seán Ó Gríofa

Online Editor

Joined De La Salle in the mid 90′s much to the annoyance of everybody. He has lasted this long and has built up a little knowledge of a few scouting skills. Quite good up the mountains and regularly brings teams of scouts up there. Hopefully some day he will use his high flying skills to bring us to far away lands like Africa or Kerry.

The Leadership Team on June 9th 2012

3rd Beaver Colony

Ray Smith

Section Leader
“Smithy” – was a leader in the 7th Scouts for 14 years before he made the ultimate change and become a Beaver leader. He has been immortalised in the campfire song about Yogi bear.

Annamae Smith

Part of the Smith dynasty. Has taken part in her fair share of competitions, doesn’t like washing pots though.

Eoin Smith
The lead drummer in the band, after a few years of “finding himself”, Smithy Junior has decided to come back in to the Beavers and give the auld fella a hand.

Eimear Costello
Another member of the crazy kilt wearing Pipe Band. Spent her youth time in the 7th Scouts and now she’s ready to impart her knowledge.

7th Beaver Colony

Jean Cahill

Section Leader

Yvonne Sinnott

Stronger than she looks, memory of an elephant!

Vickie Butler

Adds the sweetness to our group!

3rd Cub Pack

Niall McCarthy

Section Leader

The big fella, recently promoted to official flag holder at investitures.

George Kavanagh

Rumoured to have been on Brownsea Island. George has been the leader in the 3rd since it opened in 1966. His garden is about the size of the Phoenix Park.

Eoin Kelly

Scarily fast on the hills and cliffs (is he the fastest?) and has a liking for the Clonmel Champagne. Rumoured to have walked the 603km from Dursey Head to Dun Laoighre in just 21 days.

Ciaran Kelly

The new young fella of the leadership team.

7th Cub Pack

Billy Collins

Section Leader

The “Hunca” is best known for carrying a portable poultry farm onto the Irish Hills. Billy was designed for all conditions and situations. The ideal man to be around for a weekend if you’ve no grub.

John O’Donoghue

Was in the Irish Navy and is completely out of his tree. He’s not afraid to join in with any section from time to time. Just remember keep him away from unattended glasses of any liquid or bags of sugar.

Peter Murphy

One of the faster moving Cub leaders in the Group. Indeed before Peter we weren’t sure if Cub leaders could even walk, but this guy can even run. Has been known to drive the wrong way down one way streets. His renditions of “Everywhere We Go” are world class.

Brian Doyle

A whizz when it comes to technology and all things app related. Rumoured to have been Bill Gate’s Windows 98 launch advisor.

Stephen Deegan

He’s the mad paramedic who’s up for an adventure at the drop of a hat. Nothing he loves more than roaming the Comeragh Mountain with the Cubs. Fantastic at hikes all over Faithlegg and getting the campfire songs going giving Billy a run for his money.

3rd Scout Troop

Paschal Guilfoyle

Section Leader
He was the one with the famous thick black(ish) beard (we miss it) and is the definitive all round Scoutleader. Definitely the mountainy type, Paschal was once seen in wetgear costing less than €10. He wrote the book on Scouting, has a strange stone altar in his garden and occasionally has difficulty remembering to put the handbrake on his car.

Ian Sinnott

Everybody calls him Sid. Not all of that grey in his hair is paint. Nearly pulled half the leadership team off the Aiguille du Tour in the French Alps. Be careful though he sometimes looks asleep, but he’s not!

David Collins

Better and really only known as Ginter. Has been a leader in every section of the Group at this stage. Has the group’s worst pair of lungs and with his tattoos, sharing a tent with him is like “sleeping next to the Book of Kells”.

Emily Ennis

Not married to Colm but rather and at long last to his brother. Imported from the Guides, her mission is to make us cook and bake and see beyond burnt burgers.

Ciarán Nugent

The Nuge, fond of hurling and beards. Mostly found in the mess tent eating whatever is in sight, handy for lifting heavy things.

7th Scout Troop

Roddy Windle

Section Leader

The Drum Sergeant who has done a few mountain rescues in his time, nobody can really figure out Roddy at all.

Keith Cunnignham

Unfortunately he has taken to wearing strange hats. He also set a new record for the highest amount of money ever spent on hiking gear in the group in just a half an hour

Paul Windle

Roddy’s older brother. Brings sophistication and balance to the section. Not to be messed with on camp.

Paddy Kelly

Back from his adventures in Syria and Sierra Leone, Paddy has chosen the quieter life now as the Group doctor.

Venture Scout Crew

David O Neill

Section Leader

David has seen the light, and arrived from the dark side. So now it is time to take down the Melvin Badges!

Owen Riordan

It is hard to keep a straight face when “The Riordan” is around and nobody is safe from a slagging from him. While he hasn’t been seen on a mountain in this century, he is very occasionally spotted in the outdoors. May well work as a secret agent.

Gary Sinnott

No relation to Ian. Very useful when the lights go out.

Eric Whelan

Eric is hard to classify. When he isn’t breaking his teeth or breaking sledge hammers off people he is another one of our mountaineering consultants. We recommend him!

Oisín O’Byrne

Our not so long haired anymore, laid back leader (possibly a hippy). Was a member of a couple of other troops in Wexford and Dublin before he joined our happy campers. Gets a little miffed when left behind on mountains.

Catherine Kane

A handy person to have around camp fires, especially when there’s a guitar present.

The auld crew: Aidan Ennis, David Collins, John Sharpe, Billy Collins, Tom Casey, Paschal Guilfoyle, John Hennebry, Ian Sinnott, Billy Flynn and Jimmy Collins on an early Leaders Weekend in the Wicklow Mountains.
