Congratulations to Robert Windle (Roddy – below left) who won the Adult Leader Award in the Culture category at the Waterford Annual Youth Awards last night in the Granville Hotel. Roddy has been a member of the De La Salle Scout Pipe Band for many years as well as serving as a leader in the 3rd Beavers and 7th Macaoimh. Roddy is currently working in Australia and Pat Murphy, Pipe Major accepted the award on his behalf. Well done also to Group Leader David Rogers (below right) who received the Volunteer of the Year Award from Deputy Mayor, Mary Roche. At the ceremony she stated ” From an early age his dedication to scouting was apparent. He would take his fold up bike into school on the bus, attend his scout meeting on a Friday night and then cycle home to Brownstown Head after the meeting – come rain, hail or snow! He completed six years as Regional Commissioner of the Waterford and South Kilkenny Region, where he built on the good work of all those who preceded him. as part of his responsibility as a board (SICSI National Executive Board) member he was involved in the steering committee, which did much of the work in forming the new association, Scouting Ireland. He is currently Group Leader of the De La Salle Scout Group where his heart has always been and always will be. He is dedicated to scouting as an overall way of life. He does his best at all times, with a smile and a cheerful word for all in true scouting fashion” said Councillor Roche.
