1998 saw the Unit celebrate it’s 70th Anniversary and the year has been hailed as a huge success. The Anniversary programme was launched in March at the De La Salle Centre in Stephen’s Street and it concluded with the Unit Christmas mass at the De La Salle College in December. Speaking at the mass, John Hennebry, the newly elected Unit Leader went back over the events of the year and thanked all those who were involved in organising them. They included “Faithlegg 70” – the massive Unit weekend held from the 26th to the 28th of June at our campsite in Faithlegg, the open day and the special celebratory abroad camp which was held in Blackwell Court in Birmingham. The 70K hike turned out to be a real challenge and the Unit will also hosted and led the 1998 Waterford and South Kilkenny Regional Mass. John also paid a special tribute to those who were involved in setting up the new De La Salle Beaver Colony. We look forward to our centenary celebrations in 30 years hence and hope that those who will be then involved, will feel the same sense of pride and satisfaction that exists today.
