De La Salle Scout Group are organising a charity 27km traverse of the Comeragh Mountain range in County Waterford on the 5th July.

We spoke to the Section Leader of the 7th Scouts, Roddy Windle, who is one of the organisers this year.

“This is our 4th year of the Comeragh Crossing and we are hoping to build more of a profile in the scouting community nationally. We are inviting Scouters who are interested and possess the correct level of hiking experience to join us this year. The event is geared towards adults but we will accept youth members who are at least 16 as the intensity of the hike is very high, given the fact that this is a through the night event comprising a 27 kilometre traverse of the entire Comeragh range” said organiser Robert Windle, “We have enjoyed the success of this event over the last number of years, and we hope this can be our biggest year yet” he said.

The hike will commence at Power’s The Pot at dusk and culminate at Dalligan Bridge at dawn. There will be quite a few hours of darkness throughout the traverse. Night nav skills, a good level of physical fitness and mountaineering knowledge are pre-requisites.

The fee is €50 per entrant and all proceeds will go directly to De La Salle Scout Group. The group are accepting donations through GoFundMe as well; https://gofund.me/62b59c1b

The Group are currently recruiting for new youth and adult members. If you are interested, you can email mail@dlscouts.ie and through Facebook, X or Instagram.
